"Salmon Falls" Glacial Potholes ~ Shelburne Falls, MA

Located in Shelburne Falls Ma are the beautiful formations of glacial potholes. These potholes were formed by rocks of various sizes settling in the cracks of the riverbed and twirling in the fast current and boring out these natural holes. This site used to be a mecca for sunbathers, swimmers and nature lovers. Over the years there have been numerous accidents and the town was forced to gate the area off from public access. You can, however, still view from a distance these beautiful potholes and rock formations as well as scattered small natural water falls from a viewing deck at the end of Deerfield Ave. For more information on Shelburne Falls and the Glacial Potholes please click on the link below.

Bridge of Flowers ~ Shelburne Falls, MA

The Bridge of Flowers is a beautiful bridge of perrenial flowers in the center of Shelburne Falls. Once a Trolley Bridge, it has since been transformed into a "bridge of beauty". The bridge is accessible to everyone (except pets) and free to enjoy. There is a great website for the bridge with a wealth of information. You can find it by clicking the link below.

Old Sturbridge Village ~ Sturbridge MA

Old Sturbridge Village located in Sturbridge MA is a wonderful place to visit for the day with children and adults who enjoy history. The village is a "working" recreation of life from 1790-1840. Costumed interpreters work in the village and educate visitors on the way of life back then. As you walk through the village there are many homes open with period furniture and items. A general store, bank, lawyers office, black smith, potter, shoe maker and more are among the various buildings you can visit many of which have their own working interpreters. The large farmhouse in the village has a beautiful vegetable garden and fields are planted with various grains which we saw being hand picked the day we visited. Animals also reside in the village. We got to view Heritage Turkey, Chickens, Oxen, Cows, Hogs, Sheep and horses. The large Belgian horses pull a handsome coach for a fee of $3 a person around the center of town. In the lower part of the village a free ride on the open wagon gets you a nice tour around Mill Pond. For another $3 fee you can take a boat ride on the scenic Mill pond.
My daughter is a huge Felicity American Girl fan as well as a new avid reader of Little House on the Prairie. She was absolutely thrilled with the village and I believe the cost of admission is WELL worth the price paid. If you have a larger family, as do I, you may want to consider a family membership. One visit could very well pay for the visit and you can go every day they are open if you wish with the one low fee.
